Preview for tonights game

The falcons and Saints matchup in one of the better games of week 14. Im gonna try something a little different. Were gonna do a position by position breakdown so you can get a full feel of what to expect tonight QB: Neither one of these guys have put up huge numbers this year. With their respective backfields dominating the game, they havent needed to carry their teams like in years passed. Brees gets the slight edge here. The numbers are similar this year but Brees has his team playing out of their mind. Ryan has been a little sporadic this year but has found a groove as of late RB: This is a matchup of the two best running back duos in the league. Both sets of backs are capable of doing a little bit of everything. Running, catching the ball, blocking doesnt matter, all four of these guys can exploit you. Freeman and Coleman are the more established duo but Ingram and Kamara are white hot. They are setting records left and right and have actually turned the saints into a running ...

Eli Manning

Image
What a goddamn shitstorm. Look the Giants season is over, we all get that. What isnt over is Ben Mcadoos job but you have to believe that is coming to an end. The cardinal sin of a coach is to bench a quarterback that brought your city a superbowl. Look, once your city wins the big one, the quarterback is immortal. He plays until he is finished playing (see Flacco, Joe). The worst part about this decision is the fact that his offensive line sucks and all of his receivers are dead. What does he do? somehow put up 200 plus yards a ball game. This is another in a long line of wrong moves by Benny boy since last years playoff debacle. Oh yeah, did I mention Geno Smith is getting the start? If you are going with a "youth movement" (as the Giants have claimed) why not start rookie Davis Webb? It just doesn't make sense.  P.S. Mcadoo had the nerve to ask Eli if he wanted the ceremonial start to keep his streak alive. No seriously, he was going to start Manning and then bench ...

What you got wrong about Tyrod Taylor

Image
Everybody seemed to get this wrong. Is Tyrod Taylor better then Nate Peterman, obviously. And Im talking before that pathetic display on sunday. However, if you think this benching was strictly performance based you do not understand how the NFL works. When a new coach is hired they want to bring in their own players and do things their own way. This means adding the quarterback you choose, unless the guy in place is awesome. Tyrod Taylor, slightly above average, not awesome. Also Rex Ryan's quarterback. And dont give me his touchdown to interception ratio like its some be all end all stat. Sure he doesnt turn the ball over, he also doesn't throw for 300 yards and put the team on his back. Most importantly he doesn't win enough games, sorry. I will say the timing of the move is the one sticking point. You go to a new qb when you are out of the playoff hunt, not in a fucking wild card spot. Mcdermott fucked up there. But lets not pretend this benching was some egregious i...

16 Takeaways from Week 11

1. Dak Prescott is not ready to carry a team. No Zeke and Smith hurts but 3 interceptions wont do it. 2. Carson Wentz is the MVP so far. They keep rolling over teams and he keeps getting better. They are the best team in the NFC. 3. Cutler should be benched: Love him to death but Matt Moore has earned a shot 4. Lions are ready to make a run. No run game no problem, as long as Stafford is playing quaterback they have a shot. 5. The Jags are ready for the playoffs. But they are not ready for a playoff win, this isnt an issue when your core is as young as they are. Just picture Blake Bortles in the playoffs. 6. Cleveland may never win a game. Theyre just fucking terrible but they're stuck. I dont think a coaching change will do anything at this point. They just have to play the long game and hope some of these young guys pan out 7. Baltimore has a playoff defence and a high school offence. Joe Flacco is terrible. Just goes to show you, win a super bowl and you will never b...

Condensed Preview for Week 11

TB-Mia: No Jameis means no victory for the Bucs. Both teams have struggled to find a groove on offence. However, I see Cutler and Co making enough plays to win this game in ugly fashion. Phins defence harasses Shitzpatrick all day. Phins by a td Det-Chi: This will be one of those divisional games that detriot should win. Chicago will stick around with their punishing run game leading the charge. Trubisky will take another step forward and have the bears competitive. But the Bears secondary will be no match for Stafford, Tate and Jones. Detriot in a close affair Jax-Cle: Today is not the day Browns fans. Pass rush sacks Kizer 5 plus times and Leonard Fornette has a huge game. Bal-GB: Baltimore's defence will put them in position to win. The question for the Ravens is: can they get the play action going. This is when Flacco is at his absolute best. They will need a big game from Buck Allen and Alex Collins. For the Pack, it remains to be seen if last week was a trend or aberrat...

Steelers-Titans preview

The dreaded "skycam" will be an interesting look at your favorite game of real life madden. If its anything like last weeks preview, Im so out on this. Im a big fan of actually seeing the receivers but hey i guess thats just me. The game itself is going to be a good one. Both teams are at the top of the AFC and still actually have their starting qbs healthy. For the Titans this is a great matchup on offence. The steelers excel defending the pass but struggle a bit against the run. The exotic smashmouth approach should flourish assuming Demarco Murray is healthy. Thats not to say Derrick Henry cant carry the load, just that two sick runners is better then one. Mariota just needs to do what he does best, protect the ball and pick up some yards on the ground. The steelers offence seems to always be in a good position. The emergence of Smith-Schuster adds another dimension to this already potent offence. Despite the Titans decent defence, I have no doubt the Steelers will put up ...

NFL recap week 10 part 1

Hawks- Cards: as is common in seahawks land, russell wilson bent over and pulled a game out of his ass. Now I knew this was going to happen at some point. But he really convinced me that my injury riddled team had a chance and then crushed us into oblivion. Even Seahawks fans have to be fed up with their teams theatrics right? Russell Wilson just straight up refusing to take a concussion test comes to mind. Oh yeah theres also this Sherman guy who tore his achilles and then proceeded to walk a marathon on the sideline telling people he tore his achilles. Maybe go to the locker room dude, I dont know. Anyways I digress. This Cards team was overmatched but they came to play, something to be said about that. NO-Buf: So this "game of the weekend" thing didnt really workout. Buffalo is doing their thing where they play super well at the beginning of the year and then mail it in for the second half. I dont know what exactly happened to the Saints but they are unrecognizable. The ...

Quick previews for the upcoming games

ATL-CAR: Will the Kelvin Benjamin trade somehow workout, hard to picture. Can the Falcons finally play with the consistency they did last year? Or will they blow another lead? My money is the Falcons. IND-HOU: If your not a fan of either team, im not sure how you watch this game. Tom Savage stinks. Jacoby Brissett can ball but that oline is putrid. Knowing the NFL this will be one of the best games of the afternoon. CIN-JAX: Qbs beware. These teams both feature beast front sevens. Expect the Jags to squeak out a win in an old school defensive showdown. TB-NO: If the Bucs can just live up to their potential this will be a high scoring game. That is a big if though. The Saints are quietly going about their business as their defence has been very average. Thats all Drew Brees needed all these years, average. Saints take it in a shootout LA-NYG: The Rams maybe the best team in the NFL, yeah I said it. The Giants might be the worst team in football. You do the math. DEN-PHI: If on...

NFL Recap week 8 part 1

Browns-Vikings: They almost had, it was within their reach. In fact the Browns actually lead at one point in the game. Deshone Kizer looked serviceable, the running backs were excelling and the defence was keeping world beater Case Keenum at bay (note the sarcasm on that last point). Then the second half started and cleveland did what they do best, lose. Adam Theilen and Jerick Mckinnon got hot and the rest is history. the Browns are now 1-23 in their last twenty four games. Jesus, I dont think any team in the history of this sport has been that bad. This includes those shitty Tampa teams back in the day. Bills-Raiders: The bills are for real. The defence is dominate and the offence just pounds the rock. Sean Mcdermott is doing what Rex Ryan wanted to do, except better. The offence runs the shit out of the ball and the defence shuts the other team down. This combined with an ungodly amount of turnovers has the Bills looking like one hell of a team. The Raiders are lost. They played s...

NFL rapid fire takeaways week 7 part 1

Cardinals-Rams: with the injury to carson palmer, the cardinals are officially dead. David Johnson going down put us on life support. Palmer going down is a wooden stake through the heart. The worst part is I dont get to watch Blaine Gabbert, I get to watch Drew Stanton who can barely complete half of his passes. Sick. Oh yeah the Rams are a top five team, Gurley is sick, Mcvaays a genius blah blah Carolina-Chicago: Maybe the weirdest game of the entire season. The Panthers are perplexing as a team. They either look like their going to the superbowl or a bizaro version of the cleveland browns. The run game is no where to be found. You gotta think the offensive line is underachieving like crazy. Cam got his face pummeled in, something to watch going forward. The Bears have officially become a John Fox team. Run the ball a thousand times a game and play rugged defence. Trubisky completed 4 passes, no thats how you handcuff a rookie. Eddie Jackson stole the show with two return tds of o...

Rapid fire takeaways week 4 part 2

Lions-Vikings: A defensive struggle if you are into to that kind of thing. Not a lot to say here. Case Keenum came back down to earth, which surprised no one. Stafford was stifled by the always physical vikings defence, this was also not unexpected. The real surprise here came from the running backs. The snake bitten Vikings lost another stud player in Dalvin Cook to a torn ACL. Brutal blow to a potential rookie of the year candidate. Watch out for Detriot going forward if Ameer Abdullah can continue to excel like this, they could be big trouble. Steelers-Ravens: the best thing to come out of this game was Antonio Brown acting like a baby back bitch on the sideline. Dude you get the ball more then anyone, just relax. The emergence of Juju smith-schuster is something to keep an eye on. Leveon Bell did his usual damage and the Ravens look lost out there. A real snooze fest. Rams-Cowboys: Motherfucking game of the week right here. Todd Gurley is balling out like everyone with a brain ...

NFL week 4 rapid fire takeaways part 1

Cards-Niners: Just a classic NFC West slug fest in Zona. The kickers came to play as both nailed about 5 field goals a pop. This was far from a good game for either offence. Mistakes, drops and penalties plagued each team throughout the game. Palmer was battered and bruised in what has become a weekly occurrence. Aside from a bad interception on the games first drive, he looked like a guy who can play if someone blocks for him. Andre Ellington was studly, as was Jaaron Brown. The Cardinals should have won by two scores but the refs felt the need to call back two clear tds. A win is a win though. Oh yeah the niners will be good next year, mark my words Saints-Phins: This game stunk. The dolphins have some serious issues on offence and it starts with the brothers Jay. Cutty needs to be better and Ajayi needs to get his mojo back. The Saints defence looked very competent. Brees and Co. did their usual spread em out offence with Mike Thomas leading the way. Alvin Kamara had himself a gam...

Bears-Packers Preview

Writers note: Due to the influx of work at school and work, I slacked off when it came to the recaps. I hope to return to my former glory next week. Bears-Packers. Ok Im gonna try and get you guys pumped up for this but we all know how this is gonna go. Rodgers owns the Bears plain and fucking simple. This does not mean that the bears are a bad watch, in fact they are sneaky a compelling team. It starts and ends with the backfield. The combination of Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard may be my favourite backfield in the league. In Howard you have a monster, do it all running back that finished in the top five in rushing last year. Because his team was absolute horse shit you didnt hear about his dominate year. Cohen on the other hand is a young Darren Sproles. The guy is electricity in a bottle. He is the bears second leading rusher and leading receiver this year. Look for him to make a million guys miss tonight. As I've mentioned before the bears defence is no slacker unit. Look for...

nfl week 3 rapid fire takeaways part 1

Jets-Dolphins: Disgusting game for the phins offence. Both Jays stunk up the field. Ajayi couldnt get anything going in the face of the underrated Jets front seven. Cutler looked awful mechanically and gave the haters some serious ammo. The defence was no better for the phins as Josh freaking Mccown looked like a world beater. Bilal Powell and Robbie Anderson rounded out a surprisingly competent offensive attack. On defence they were incredibly stout. Jamal Adams looks like he could be a potential all pro someday. Bengals-Packers: The Bengals almost had it. They played the kind of football one can expect when you have that many weapons. They did this crazy thing where they threw AJ Green the ball and good things happened, who would have thought. Andy Dalton bounced back and Joe Mixon had spurts of good looking ball. The defence harassed aaron rodgers all day with Carl Lawson (3 sacks) and Will Jackson (pick six) leading the charge. The Packers line was abused by the Cincy pass rush i...

Rams-Niners roundup

I know nothing about football. If you told me that the Rams and Niners were going to combine for 80 points, I'd kindly ask what you are smoking. Yet here we are. The game of the season features two teams who usually struggle to score tds, let alone put up forty burgers. Its a brave new world in the NFC West and I hate it. Sure its entertaining but I dont want to live in a world where my beloved Cardinals can be outscored by the niners. The game itself was a chess match between two of the best offensive minds in the game today.  I have to give a slight edge to Shanny here. Making Brian Hoyer look good is an incredible feat. Thats not to say Mccvay didnt kill it, he totally did. Jared Goff looks absolutely ridiculous and Todd Gurley has his mojo back. Sammy Watkins is living up to his billing and Bobby Woods had a great comeback game. The defence should be worried. Everyone was exposed, especially Trumaine Johnson and the run defence. The good news is they have the talent and coachin...

Rapid fire takeaways week 2 the final part

Bills-Panthers: Both defences came to ball out. A common theme so far around the league and I have to say, I hate it. The offences couldn't get themselves going save for a couple runs by the qbs. A lone bright spot for the Panthers was Devin Funchess, the kid balled out. I dont know what else to say, the games final score was 9-3 Bears-Bucs: The Bears looked absolutely terrible. Kind of a tough sell when you turn the ball over 4 times in the first half. I would say its trubisky time but outside of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen there is no talent on offence. Hopefully, they hit on another top pick come draft time, they are going to need it. The Bucs looked good in essentially a tune up game. Jamies Winston picked up where he left off last year. Mike Evans is still a beast, Desean Jackson is making strides and Jaquizz looks like he can carry the running game for a bit. The defence was sharp and created a number of turnovers. Browns-Ravens: Deshon Kizer came crashing back down to ...

Rapid fire takeaways week 2 part 3

Image
Lions-Giants: Does anyone know why the Giants cant score? It might have something to do with the trash oline or the total lack of a running game but come on here. You have a superbowl winning qb, one of the best receivers in the game and a plethora of other weapons around you. Not to mention a defence that is easily a top 5 unit in football. What the fuck is happening here guys? The lions on the other hand look good. If ameer abdullah can continue to be above average this offence is totally set. Matt Stafford has been dominate since last year and he seems to really be clicking with his receivers. Eric Ebron is starting to the turn the corner and Kenny Golladay looks nice. Couple them with Marvin Jones and Golden Tate and you got a good looking offence. The defence has always been just good enough. However, the rise of Jarrad Davis has really helped this unit take the next step. Watch out for Detroit. Broncos-Cowboys: Zeke Elliott has his first bad game as a pro and people are frea...

Rapid fire takeaways from week 3 part 2

Image
Dolphins-Chargers: Smoking Jay Cutler is back baby! All the haters were waiting for a bad performance. Well jokes on you muthafuckas. Behind Cutlers steady hand, Jarvis Landry's ridiculousness and Jay Ajayi's beast mode-like antics, the phins find themselves 1-0. The defence also played a great game. They used a bend, dont break style and kept the Chargers in check. Rivers was once again robbed of a game he deserved to win. He looked solid throughout the game and put his team in a position to win. Antonio Gates continued his dominate career by becoming the all time leader in touchdown catches by a tight end. Keenan Allen looked healthy and Melvin Gordon still mad a few plays despite his numbers. However, that Young Ho ruined everything for the second time in two weeks. Time for the snip. Patriots-Saints: Bradys back, the saints defence sucks. Drew Brees played well and Sean Payton was aggressive in his plays calls. Is anybody surprised? Jets-Raiders: the Jets stuck aroun...

Rapid fire takeaways from week 2 NFC West addition.

Image
Cardinals-Colts: Total snooze fest. By snooze fest I mean lack of scoring because I definitely wasnt snoozing. I was having a near heart attack until we mounted that comeback. The Colts stink and we let them hang around just a little too long. The run game was inconsistent but Chris Johnson did provide a boost. The oline struggled but that was to be expected with Humphries and Iuapati out. Carson looked bad early but made some serious plays in the fourth quarter and OT. JJ Nelson has sneaky been incredible over his last few games. He has a td in seven consecutive games and 9 of his last 11. He made the play of the game on a palmer bomb down the field. The defence looked incredible, especially Chandler Jones. The Colts played well for the most part. Their defence bounced back and Brissett looked steady in his first colts start. He did throw a late pick to the Honey Badger but he was solid throughout. Frank Gore was the usual thorn in our side. Not a pretty win but one we needed badly...

Rapid Fire from week 1 part 3

Bears-Falcons: Chicago looks surprisingly competent. Mike Glennon is no world beater but he looked the part of a very competent starter. Tarik Cohen is an absolute stud. Every play he touched the ball was absolutely electric. Theres a reason they call him the human joy stick. What surprised me the most was the bears defence. The front seven is no joke and kept Devonta Freeman in check for the majority of the game. The Falcons started slow but appeared to round into form late. The offence shook off the rust and just did just enough to win. The defence really struggled with tackling and Desmond Trufant was exposed multiple times. Two things to keep an eye on. Cowboys-Giants: The Cowboys came to play. Zeke and Dak picked up where they left off and controlled the game on offence. On defence the new look secondary really surprised. Anthony Brown is a name to watch as he only allowed a single reception all game. Janoris Jenkins shut down Dez but the Boys are so loaded they exploited that a...

Rapid fire takeaways week 1 part 2

Image
Browns-Steelers: Kizer looks like a real player. The Browns surprised on both sides of the ball and were very much in this game. The highly touted oline needs to be better both in Pass pro and run blocking. Isiah Crowell ran well but needs to have a more consistent impact. The Steelers defence came to play, containing the Browns for much of the game. Leveon Bell looked rusty, as did Big Ben. Antonio Brown was, well Antonio Brown. Jesse James might have just stolen the starting tight end spot with a big two td performance. The steelers looked off but you have to think that is temporary. Indy and LA: Sean Mcvay is a genius, he puts his qbs in the position to succeed. Jared Goff will be this years version of Kirk Cousins and surprise the shit out of all you idiots who called him a bust. The defence is finally playing up to its potential and scored on a couple of pick sixes. The line held up in pass pro but they need to make a drastic improvement in opening holes for Todd Gurley. Gurl...

Rapid Fire Takeaways from Week 1 part 1

Image
Patriots-Chiefs: The Chiefs look incredible. The defence was outstanding as per usual. Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt are the real deal. The Patriots offence will be fine but that defence, especially sans Hightower is atrocious. Also, Alex Smith must have learned how to throw the deep ball from Patty Mahomes. Cardinals-Lions: Matt Stafford only plays well in the fourth, the only quarter that matters. Palmer had no idea what he was doing, lets hope that is not a common theme. David Johnson and DJ Humphries could be on the shelf, thus ending our playoff hopes. The defence looked great for stretches but Justin Bethel needs to step his shit up. Kenny Galloway can seriously ball. Detriots running game will continue to be an issue. Jacksonville-Houston: This Jags defence is loaded, they can single-handedly win games for a team that would love just a few. Leonard Fournette looks capable of carrying an offence as long as Blake Bortles doesnt fuck it up. The loss of Allen Robinson will hurt...

Chiefs-Patriots Preview

I like this matchup. The Chiefs usually give the Pats a run for their money. By that I mean they literally just run out the clock on the Patriots. Andy Reids exotic, dink and dunk offence has a way of running the clock while the team methodically marches into field goal range. This is especially effective against a team known for racking up yardage and points. At this point the only way one can beat Tom Brady is keeping his cheating ass off the field and the Chiefs are proficient in such a thing. Key matchup: Justin Houston vs Patriots oline: Houston is one scary dude. Guy is maybe the most underrated defensive player in the game today. He can rush the passer, stop the run and drop into coverage with the best of them. Neutralizing Houston is the key for any offence to be successful against the formidable Chiefs defence. I anticipate Houston having a splash play or two but the Pats will hold him in check. They will do this by utilizing their quick passing game so he doesn't have t...

Sheldon Richardson

Image
Well this is just straight up terrifying. The talented but troubled defensive lineman was dealt from the Jets to the Seahawks for Jermain Kearse and a second round pick. This guy, with his head on straight, is one of the top defensive tackles in the game. Add him to a lineup featuring Cliff Avril and Micheal Bennett and you have possibly the best defensive lines in the game. As a Cardinals fan this is one of the worst thing to happen since the Hawks drafted Russell Wilson. Blocking these guys is gonna be impossible. Richardson is the biggest winner here, the guy is a certified lunatic and he is headed to best place for lunatics. The Seahawks seem to have a way with annoying, troubled or aggressively religious players. Its basically New England but for the most annoying humans on the planet earth. So this sucks ass twofold. One the Seahawks got better and two my least favourite team got more fucking annoying!

Edleman donezo

Image
Brutal blow to the Patriots chances......Ah who am I kidding. This just means some whitey reciever will have a better year then he was going to have before. Hogan or Carr will just seamlessly fill in and the evil empire will continue its rien. This is not to say Edleman isnt a hell of a player, its only to say that Brady will just make some ex-lacrosse player a stud. This doesn't effect their playoff chances at all. Where this will effect them is in the playoffs. Edleman has consistently been one of the most clutch performers for the Pats in key situations. His catch in the superbowl that year perfectly sums that up. So while this wont be a short term concern for the Pats, it may come back to bite them in playoffs.

Bortles just isnt good....sorry

Image
I want to like Blake Bortles, I really do. At first glance the guy is a carbon copy of big ben. 6'5, big arm, superior athleticism and the ability to pick up yards on the ground. Upon further examination you have a guy that is not a starting caliber player. His throwing motion and mechanics are trash and his accuracy really suffers as a result. He is prone to interceptions and experiences multiple lapses in judgement when it comes to reading coverages. This may seem like a surprise to some who remember his 2015 season but numbers don't tell the whole story. Jacksonville was down almost every game that season, by multiple scores. This allowed Bortles to pad his stats and take advantage of the physically imposing Allen brothers on the outside. With that in mind, the man was never very good. The signs were always there with this guy. He came from a small university where he, surprise, struggled with intermediate and deep accuracy. His athleticism and appearance tricked teams i...

Rams get Sammy

Image
Wow what to say about this trade. First off, a very surprising move on a few fronts. The Rams usually shy away from aggressively pursuing talented wide receivers. In the past they have been more interested in drafting receivers in the second and third round and hoping they develop. However, Sean Mccvay is looking to modernize this prehistoric offence and acquiring Watkins will do just that. They gave up EJ Gaines (essentially their slot corner) and a second round pick, which is no small package. Watkins is a big risk-reward receiver. He has top 10 talent but the bone density of Mr. Glass from Unbreakable. When healthy he is a bonafide number one receiver capable of beating you in a variety of ways, especially after the catch. Overall, this a gamble but one that the Rams needed to make to ensure Jared Goff continues to develop.

Cuttys back!

Image
My guy Jay Cutler is back. All you idiots that hate him because he doesn't smile or yell at people can fuck right off. In all seriousness this was the perfect move for the phins. If Tannehill comes back they have the best backup in the league. If he starts then the miami has a proven starter who has excelled under Adam Gase. Smoking Jay Cutler has a solid running game and an underatted recieving core, this could be exactly what he needs to reinvigorate his career. Did anyone actually think Cutty wanted to walk away from football? No he just wanted a chance to start. A chance he should have got with the Jets. I cant think of a guy who gets more hate for no reason then Jay. Guy can sling it and the haters are about to find out.

Tannehill mess

Image
What in the actual fuck is going with this Tannehill story. For those of you living under rock, Ryan Tannehill hurt his knee yesterday. This unfortunately, was the same knee he injured last year just in time for the playoffs. Since this news broke, reporters seem to be pushing two separate stories at once. The world according to Adam Schefter has claimed that Tannehill needs season ending surgery. However, nfl.com claims that there is no structural damage and that he just needs to rest it for 6-8 weeks. I have never seen such a variation on a story like this. It is usually just oh he has a torn ACL, its over. When you have two reputable sources with conflicting reports, who are you supposed to believe? Meanwhile, rumours are swarming that one Jay Cutler would be willing to come back and play for his old coach, Adam Gase. If things are really as bad as schefty claims then this would be an awesome replacement. Gase knows how to get through to cutler, he minimizes risky throws and puts...

Jamal Adams and CTE

Image
Good on ya Jamal Adams. In one moment you silenced the annoying "is football dying debate?". The Jets safety was asked during a press conference about the new CTE study. He replied by saying what the majority of football players are thinking. He basically said he loves the game and that there is no place he rather die then on the field. This is something that the mainstream media seems to forget. Athletes love their sports to death and if they get paid millions of dollars they will eat any risks in order to live their dreams. Breaking news, life is dangerous. Sure some pursuits are more dangerous then others but freewill allows us to choose what we want to do with our lives. I know its hard to understand mental midgets but football players now know the dangers and guess what, they are still here.

John Urschel

Image
A new concussion test, an early retirement and people have lost their damn minds. Everyone is pretending that this early retirement is a sign of things to come. They said it when Chris Borland called it quits, they said it when the last CTE study was made public. This is classic fodder in a dead time for NFL news. Once again we are pretending like we are ignorant to the dangers of a game where you smash into each other. This whole CTE thing never made sense to me in the first place. Did you think nothing would happen long term when you play a contact sport? The point remains, people will always play football, box and step into the MMA ring. Could we see a drop in participation? sure we could. I just don't understand the people pretending like football is going to go extinct. The top players at every position continue to play year in and year out. Urschel is an interesting dude but he is a borderline starter. Were not talking about Joe Thomas here. Furthermore, the guy is completin...

Gettleman axed

Image
In a strange trend another general manager was let go after the draft was complete. Among those shown the door this spring Panthers GM Dave Gettleman stands as the most surprising. He built up an average Panthers team into a perennial playoff contender. Gettleman's methods have always been strange, he seemingly went against the grain at every turn. He jettisoned popular cornerstones such as Deanglo Williams, Steve Smith and most importantly Josh Norman. Gettleman's focus on the offensive and defensive lines was a perfect case study on how to build up a franchise. However, his relationship with ownership seem to deteriorate following the Josh Norman debacle. He famously pulled Norman's franchise tag and made him a free agent late in the offseason last year. This combined with a lost season spelled doom for Dave. However, I find it particularly interesting that they kept him around for the draft. Squeeze every ounce of expertise out of the guy and kick him to the curb. Tha...

The Zeke Elliott Shitstorm

Image
Lets get a few things straight. One the dude was framed for domestic violence. No if, ands or buts about it. Witnesses claim the so called "victim" tried to set him up and quote "ruin his career". Furthermore, he had the wherewithal to save numerous texts where she explicitly stated she wanted to ruin him following a breakup. Despite the evidence, the NFL has spent the last year "investigating" these claims and have now decided to hand him a short suspension according to the rumour mill. This should come as no surprise to anyone. The NFL is not a business that concerns itself with petty details like proof or official arrest records. It is a puppet of media perception and the outrage driven news cycle. The media hears domestic violence and the NFL and assumes the guy is guilty. This comes as no surprise. Now, this is not to say Zeke is not without his issues. He's known for putting himself in questionable positions while out partying. These instances...

floyd the wino

Image
This story is a little on the old side but the ridiculousness cannot be ignored. A little background, then cardinals reciever micheal floyd was found passed out at a traffic light driving his car. His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. He was sentenced 24 days in prison and 100 on house arrest. Obviously the man had to avoid booze at all costs. A few months later, Floyd (now with the Vikings) tested positive for alcohol but wait his excuse is beautiful. He claimed that he drank a large amount of kombucha tea which he did not know contained alcohol. Really Mike? Im pretty sure one can tell when they are consuming booze. Theres this thing on the label that says BAC, not sure if you've heard of it. Also that light headed good feeling was not the tea working its herbal magic. It was the power of the booze, as an alcoholic you should know that better then anyone. Anyways, the courts are in the process of figuring out what to do with the talented wino. His coach has ...

Kirk Cousins situation

Image
This is proof that Dan Snyder is the human embodiment of cancer. For the first time in a while the redskins have a decent quarterback. Hell, they even fielded a competitive team the last two years. What do they do to reward the face of the franchise, refuse to pay him long term. Now if the team had a reputation of being fickle then this would at least make a little sense. However, the redskins have been far from cheap since Snyder purchased the team. They routinely overpaid for free agents like Adam Archuleta and Albert Haynesworth only to see them washout. The finally have a homegrown leader who can elevate a team to the playoffs and they refuse to pay him. Sure Cousins isn't a world beater but lets take a look at some of the qbs who have received long term deals. Andy Dalton (0 playoff wins), Ryan Tannehill (0 playoff appearances), Colin Kaepernick (out of the league), the list goes on. Williams the wrestler?

Image
So Deanglo Williams decided to give wrestling a try. All signs pointed to an exdous from football for the aging running back. He began training and had his sites set on the WWE. This story stunk of an athlete thinking he could seemlessly play any sport with ease ala Tim Tebow. To the surprise of many the guy could actually wrestle. In fact, he won his first match and looked very impressive. At least thats what I heard, Im not a big wrestling guy. Correct me if Im wrong but doesn't someone decide the outcome of the match before hand? If so is he really that good? I digress. So instead of completing the transformation to full time wrestler, Williams now wants back into football. Very confusing indeed. I'm inclined to think he gets another chance. He's ancient but he can contribute in a number of ways. He can be a bell cow, goal line or third down back, plus hes a high character guy who could be a mentor. He filled in admirably for Leveon Bell when he decided to hit the bon...

Green-Beckham cut

Image
Randy Moss talent with a Ryan Leaf brain. The book on DGB is that he's a headcase with undeniable talent. He's had his share of mishaps in the past with a pair of drug arrests and an incident involving a lady and some stairs. He then wore out his welcome in tennesse by being lazy and not learning the playbook. Philly gives him a shot and he parties it away with fellow receivers. This guy doesn't even need to try hard, hes 6'6 and runs a 4.3. Hes also proven that he can be a formidable red zone threat, flashing in his first year with the Titans. He's to talented not get another shot. He'll probably get signed by the Patriots and have 80 catches.

If Sheldon Richardson could shut up that would be great

Image
Sheldon Richardson, the once promising defensive end of the Jets. He burst on the scene as a high draft pick who could defend both the pass and the run equally well. A true player to build around on a powerful New York defensive line. Then something happened, after two promising years the lineman seemingly snapped. Though still decently productive on the field he lost his damn mind. It all started with the time he was pulled over driving 100 mph, high as shit with a gun in the car. Oh and did I mention an infant was also present. That cost him a few games. Since that point he has been acting like someone with early onset CTE. He's snap chatted in the lockerroom about going to find "hoes" instead of playing a meaningless december game. Hes fought certified nutcase Brandon Marshall in the lockerroom, you know I'll give him a pass on that one. Just recently he was asked about the Jets rebuild and how they may be tanking this year. His response "I dont tank nothin...

Ingram deal

The Chargers locked down one of the most consistent and underrated pass rushers yesterday. Though Ingram posted a decent 8 sacks last year, the numbers dont tell the whole story. According to pro football focus Ingram has been one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the NFL. If you factor in qb pressures and hits, there were only two players who spent more time abusing quarter backs. This is a relatively surprising signing in that the historically shrill chargers usually dont like paying their players. From LT to the whole Bosa fiasco the Spanos family is very unpopular in negotiations thus curtailing their appeal to other free agents. When this is the case you have to hold on to your home grown talent. San Diego is sneaky building a formidable young defence. The front seven features Bosa, Liuget, Ingram and Denzel Perryman and the secondary has the NFL's interception leader in Case Hayward. Combine this with the weapons Rivers has on offence and this San Diego team could surpri...

Ryan Brothers Brawl

Image
Ah the Ryan brothers. The loveable, fat duo is known for a few things. Defence, large guts, random outbursts and tandem bikes. Both were relieved of their coaching duties and have yet to be picked up again. SO what do our favourite Buffalo wing eating twins do now? They obviously party their fucking faces off. The only thing stopping a total unleash of the Ryan brothers was coaching. Now unemployed with millions of dollars, they decided to tear up Nashville. They have been seen basically everywhere from day drinking at bars to smashing cars at pep rallies, they guys are living their best lives. However, when you have two polarizing figures feeding off each other, bellies full of tacos and margaritas things are bound to get interesting. Things came to a head at a Nashville bar. The video begins with Rex jockeying for position while Rob chokes a man. It ends with Rob trying to fight the guy restraining him as Rex gets into a shoving match. You just know some asshole came up to them, c...

Celebrations are back....sort of

Image
In a move that seems anti-Goddell celebration rules have changed. The so called "No Fun League" nickname really started to manifest when we were stripped of creative celebrations. From Chad Johnson (ochocinco or whatever) golfing with a pylon to Randy Moss's mooning escapades celebrations made for some of the best moments. These were stripped away when Fuhrer Goddell came in to clean up the league. Next the NFL set its sights on the ever exciting goal post dunk celebration. A common celebration amongst the various former basketball players such as Jimmy Graham. It was when Graham almost broke a goal post that the No fun league again stripped us of post touchdown entertainment, outlawing the dunk. Other then the lambeau leap, celebrations had really lost their luster. Everytime we saw a good one, the team was penalized and the player was sometimes fined (see Antonio Brown twerking like a chick). It appears we have turned a corner as the league competition committee vot...

Ezekiel Elliott

The thing with Zeke is that there is always a little something going on. Every few weeks he remerges with a controversial incident. These incidents usually fall under the frowned upon, not illegal but still concerning category. There was the time his girlfriend tried to entrap him with false domestic violence claims. Then you have the whole, pulling a chicks shirt down to free the nipple. I also recall a weird story where he got into a fender bender coming to the Cowboys facility. And finally you have another minor car accident which injured his head. I'm not saying Zeke is a bad guy because I dont think he is. I'm saying hes a moron, like low IQ. Hire a driver and if your going to act like an idiot in the club take away everybodys cellphones so the shit isnt on tape. If I'm dallas right now im making sure he at the very least gets that driver, you cant have your bell cow back getting into extra collisions off the field.

Josh Gordon denied re-entry

Image
VS. Im of two minds on Josh Gordon. 1. He's an idiot who has his priorities fucked up. This speaks to his unwillingness to kick the ganja in order to make millions. The average career is four years. Get your money, dominate the league and retire at 33. At which point you can spend the rest of your life smoking some herb to numb the pain of all of those hits over the years. Seems reasonable to me. Also you can still drink so maybe do that while your playing if you must have a vice. 2. The NFL needs to figure this whole weed thing out. I'm of the mind that a private corporation has its choice in policies and shouldn't be forced one way or another. This is especially true for something that is still technically illegal. However, when you hand out dangerous opioids and other synthetic pain meds like there M and M's an alternative might be in order. Furthermore, when a negative drug test for a harmless, non-add...

Washington Released

Well I cant say Im surprised. Its been three years and were set at inside backer. Couple that with the position he has put the team in after his suspension and its no surprise that he is hitting the open market. Washington made sure that everyone knew he would be back stronger then ever. The exact quote was "I will play at an all-pro level again", while totally unlikely this is a bit scary. If he is three quarters the player he used to be we are going to regret not giving him a second, maybe third, yeah I dunno how many chances hes had. Just dont go to Seattle ok?

Daryl Washington reinstated

Image
Bizarre that this guy is back. He's essentially been suspended since 2014. I thought we had heard the last of him as assualt charges and failed drug tests are usually a formula for a lifetime band when one is already suspended. For the Cardinals this is an interesting situation. When he played Washington was one of the best inside linebackers in the league. His athleticism, coverage ability and blitzing were a rare combination amongst his peers. His history of success makes me believe that the Cardinals will at least give him a look in camp. However, the linebacking core is pretty set with Bucannon, Dansby and freaky first rounder Haason Reddick. So best case scenario you are looking at a fourth linebacker who can play a bit of special teams. That doesn't sound so bad if the guy is half the player he used to be. Only time will tell.

Gabbert to the Cardinals

Image
In these slow news days of the late spring one must reach for a story sometimes. This is why a backup qb has made the blog. Well that and its a cardinals thing so I will convince myself that this is the best move possible. So Blaine Gabbert signed a one year deal with the Cardinals yesterday and I love it. Anytime you get a below average starting qb to be your backup, its a win. Gabbert actually had some good starts the last few years with the niners. Including a very capable performance against the Cardinals which definitely played into his signing. He's big, smart and can push the ball downfield (sometimes). Couple that with some sneaky mobility and he's basically arians favourite thing. I also like this signing because Drew Stanton has been below average the last few years when Palmer has been hurt. I love Drew as much as the next guy but his celebrations might be better fit for a third string job. Hopefully we wont have to see Blaine this year but if we do I think hes mo...

The Jay Cutler situation

Image
Sad to see Jay go. Sneaky one of my favorite qbs in the NFL for the longest time. I knew when he came out of Vanderbilt and tore up the combine that I would always have a soft spot. At his peak he was a gun slinging, deep ball completing, badass who made know apologies. At his worst he was an average starting quarterback in the league. Ever since he tore a ligament in his knee and sat out the NFC championship game in 2010 people have had it out for him. Who besides Philip fucking Rivers has played a game on a torn ligament? Ill wait. The bottom line is Cutler never had an oline or a consistent set of receivers to complement his skill set. Sure he dug himself into a number of holes with his interceptions but he never had a coach build around him like every other qb in the league. Josh Mcdaniels ran him out of Denver, Lovie Smith has no idea what offence means and Mark Tresman thought the NFL was the CFL. He finally got a good coach in Adam Gase and looked like a guy that could be built ...
