NFL week 4 rapid fire takeaways part 1
Cards-Niners: Just a classic NFC West slug fest in Zona. The kickers came to play as both nailed about 5 field goals a pop. This was far from a good game for either offence. Mistakes, drops and penalties plagued each team throughout the game. Palmer was battered and bruised in what has become a weekly occurrence. Aside from a bad interception on the games first drive, he looked like a guy who can play if someone blocks for him. Andre Ellington was studly, as was Jaaron Brown. The Cardinals should have won by two scores but the refs felt the need to call back two clear tds. A win is a win though. Oh yeah the niners will be good next year, mark my words
Saints-Phins: This game stunk. The dolphins have some serious issues on offence and it starts with the brothers Jay. Cutty needs to be better and Ajayi needs to get his mojo back. The Saints defence looked very competent. Brees and Co. did their usual spread em out offence with Mike Thomas leading the way. Alvin Kamara had himself a game, cataching 10 balls out of the backfield. The kid just keeps getting better and better each week. The refs really bogged this game down with a bunch of shitty calls throughout. These London games have become unwatchable.
Pats-Panthers: This Patriots defence sucks. A struggling Cam Newton came and tore it up despite missing Greg Olsen. In one of the best games of the week, Brady and Cam went tit for tat on scoring drives. Both defences helpless to hold the likes of Kelvin Benjamin and Chris Hogan down. If I am the Pats I am very concerned with my secondary. This is supposed to be the strength of the defence and they are allowing middling receivers to run wild on them. At 2-2 something needs to change in Patriots land.
Bills-Falcons: No Sanu, no Julio, we have a problem. Matt Ryan looked decent considering the circumstances but a key fumble and a late interception sealed his fate. The underatted Bills defence did a serious number on the short handed falcons. This is an opportunistic bunch that plays hard every snap of the game. On offence the Bills are doing exactly what they want to do. Pounding the ball a million times and unleashing Tyrod Taylor on play action passes. Credit where credit is due, this formula was not working for the Bills ever since Taylor became the starter but they might have just figured it out. Its hard to argue with the 3-1 record they are now sporting.
Browns-Bengals: So the Bengals still remember how to play football, that weird. In all seriousness the Bengals got back on track against an underatted Cleveland defence. Andy Dalton looked flawless completing over 80% of his passes for four tds. The breakout star was young Taylor Kroft, who hauled in two td passes and provided the redzone target they are missing with Eifert on the shelf. One has to be concerned with the running game, however. Joe Mixon just cant get on track. In fact Geo Bernard looks like the best player in that backfield. As for cleveland they are still trying to figure it out. Kizer is going through some serious growing pains (as to be expected). However, bright spots are the continued production out of Ricardo Louis and Myles Garrett may finally play next week.
Titans-Texans: Deshaun Watson is a straight up gamer. The guy went for five tds against an excellent front seven and average secondary. No small feat for a rookie. Lamar Miller and Deandre Hopkins balled out and the Texans have the look of a playoff team. Where are my Bill O'Brien haters now. The defence dominated the Titans, forcing Mariota to throw 2 picks before he left with an injury in the middle of the game. Backup Matt Cassell didnt fair much better, throwing two picks himself. The Titans hype train is officially off the rails. The secondary is not that good and the offence will stink with Mariota on the shelf for the next week or so. Oh well they are still a young bunch.
Jags-Jets: Disgusting game in terms of good football. Great game for weird plays. Amongst these plays were Bilal Powell falling down, with no contact, getting up and then going to the house from 80 yards out. Next you have Myles Jack intercepting a lateral screen pass and taking it roughly 60 yards to the house. Finally, you have Bortles getting intercepted by a defensive lineman in the backfield, setting up a Jets td. In what seemed like a prank of a football game, you actually had a surprisingly good game. The Jets ended up taking it with a dominate performance from Powell and backup Rb Mcguire. The jets cant even tank properly.
