Chiefs lock em up

KC smartly locked up their dynamic duo from last year on dirt cheap contracts. This was a great move because of Jamal Charles shaky injury history. Look for the Chiefs to utilize a three headed monster in their backfield to keep Charles fresh and Ware and West involved. Getting Charles back will make an already dangerous chiefs team that much more potent. Look out AFC West, the Chiefs have running backs for days.

The redskins

Its low risk, high reward season and count the redskins in. They grabbed Vernon Davis on a 1 year deal. Davis struggled in San Fran last year and was dealt to the Broncos, where he took a back seat to Owne Daniels. I think Davis can still play and if he even gets half of his skills back from a few years ago, this will be a coup. Imagine trying to defend Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis, with Garcon and a healthy Desean Jackson on the outside. The skins passing attack could get scary.

Whats a cowboy to do?

There has been a lot of talk about what the Cowboys should do with the number 4 pick. The consensus is either Joey Bosa or Ezekiel Elliott. Personally, I dont think this is a debate. The Boys are depleted at defensive end and Bosa seems like a safe bet in their system. He might not have the highest ceiling but he seems very pro-ready and the Cowboys are in a win now situation. Thats not to say the case could not be made for Elliott but the fact of the matter is running back is not a big need for them now. A duo of Mcfadden and Alfred Morris behind that offensive line should absolutely be productive. Through in Lance Dunbar for passing downs and you have a real decent three-headed monster. I understand the debate as Elliott is similar to Todd Gurley in that he might be the most talented player in this draft as Gurley was last year. However, Tony Romo's productivity clock is ticking and Dez Bryant isnt getting any younger. Make the right call for once Jerry.

Packers are alive

Dont look now but the Packers have made a late splash in free agency. Just kidding! They picked up overatted athletic marvel Jared Cook. Hope they dont expect him to block or catch anything. What he does bring is a trait you cant teach. Looking like a good football player until, well there is football to play. In all fairness if there is one qb that can bring the best out of him it is Aaron. Its a classic packers signing, short term, low risk and high reward signing. Say what you want about Ted Thompson but the guy wont change for anyone and you gotta respect that.

Credit where credit is due

I'll be the first to admit it, Eddie Lacy proved me wrong. That cheeseburger eating fuck has really cleaned up his act. Realzing that he wasnt a nose tackle this offseason is the best thing that couldve happen to him. We all now skinny eddie can ball. Looks like he's back and I couldnt be more scared of the Packers. Remeber Jordy Nelson is also back, this makes this cardinals fan just a little concerned about the cheeseheads. There maybe something to this P90X thing.

Norman-Beckham

This is definetely going to be a common theme. Both guys can ball, hate each other and are petty as shit. These guys are the worst. Norman is a self absorbed loser who initimdates guys with baseball bats. Beckham is the worst, Ive addressed this in other blogs so ill just leave it at that. However, I love this rivalary. It really made for some compelling TV when these guys were matched up against each other. I feel like Norman gave the rest of the league a blueprint on how to stop OBJ, just look at him funny. Norman saying the Beckham was not in his top 5 reciever list was hilarious. Beckham watching on TV and then tweeting in real time was even funnier. Its unfortunate these guys dont play each other in the regular season this year. Would love to see one of their classic scraps.

NFL concussion

This headline alone should bring in some views. I mean we are talking about concussion research from 1996-2001 here. Why is this news? I have said from the start anyone who was surprised that football causes concussions and brain damage is thick. Anyone who thinks the NFL would corporate with a study that makes them look bad is also thick. However, the outrage from this is baffling. This is a violent game that players get paid more then enough to play. I am so tired of the player safety, societal outrage movement. However, this needs to be looked at from both sides. The NFL denying the whole concussion, CTE thing is ridiculous. Your sport is popular and violent, get over it. If you just come out and owned the fact that football is not a game for the faint of heart then everyone gets off your back. Just look at MMA, they apologize to no one and they are popular for it. Play football or dont but get out of here with this whole concussion cover up thing. The NFL is run by dicks this is tr...

Titans do it

Great and cheap grab for the Titans in safety Rashad Johnson. Watching him play for the Cards was a treat. He will be an excellent replacement for Mike Griffin. A combination of Johnson and Searcy gives the Titans a solid back end of their defence. If they can beef up the cornerback situation, you have a surprisingly stout unit that will help Mariota and crew stay in games next year. Combine that with the number 1 pick and things dont look so bad in the Music city.

Saints get a good one

Nick Fariley goes to the saints in your classic low risk high reward pickup. The Saints need defensive talent and they need it cheap. This accomplishes both. The Saints all of the sudden have something to work with here. Fairley, Jenkins and Cam Jordan has the makings of a decent front defensively. If Nick can adjust to 3-4 end then you may have a coup for the cap strapped saints. Now they just need to beef up that secondary.

Aaron is a nut

You may know Aaron rodgers as the star qb who is arguably the most talented qb in the league. But off the field this guy is a certified wiener. The rumors of him liking wiener make sense (article and picture below) and he has a bizarre sense of humour (dude was caught rubbing a teammates beard). To top it all off he and his fake wife (i say fake because i think its a gay cover up) post some of the stupidest attempts at comedy on the internet semi-regularly. So the news of him having seen a UFO comes as no surprise. Of course this wierdo thinks he saw aliens, its just so perfect Rodgers. Guy just seems a little bit off and I cant put my finger on it. P.S. gay rumours http://www.sportsgrid.com/nfl/so-theres-a-rumor-that-aaron-rodgers-is-gay/ He really, really likes women guys. His weird I'm gay kiss http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/article/media_slots/photos/001/579/564/dd7f27be13abc369b2f2726468e2129b_crop_exact.png?w=650&h=433&q=85 and of course the UFO story: http://ww...

Hard Knocks

The rams getting hard knocks is a great thing. This is a team full of characters and a coach who just might be one of the sneakier funny guys out there. Plus the whole moving to LA thing will bring a nice dynamic to everything. Who doesnt want to get an up close look at some of the troubleemakers these guys have taken in the past. You've got trumain johnson, robert quinn, alec ogletree and todd gurley. From a team perspective, people will whine and complain because of the perpetual 8-8 seasons and the lack of sexy offence but there is a lot of talent and entertainment potential on this team. I for one could not be more excited.

Stop changing everything

I really dont know whats happened to my favourite league. It seems every year they are trying to tinker and change the game around. Just leave it alone. You, as the owners make retarded amounts of money but still feel the need to fuck with everything. How about just leaving things the way they are. At this point, the game is almost night and day from 20 years ago and thats fine, I guess. But there is no need to make further changes whatsoever. This rant is in reaction to the leagues desire to eliminate one of the most exciting plays in football, the kick return. A few years back they moved up kickoffs so as to force touchbacks because kick returns are dangerous. Newsflash, football is dangerous, thats why they get the big bucks. To further fuck with things they decide hey why dont we make touchbacks come to out to the 25. This is to give kick returners even more incentive to take a knee in the endzone. Come on, this was already happening way too often. I love a good kick return touchdo...

Come back!

Funny story out of New York today. You have the owner of the Jets begging Fitzpatrick to come back. Dude, just give him what he wants contract wise and hes coming back. Do you think that saying please will solve all of your problems? I mean I dont know if Fitz is a sentimental guy but I dont think he cares if you say please, give him his money. I will say that asking for 18 million is a little ridiculous considering this guys circumstance. He signed a huge deal in Buffalo only to shit the bed and hes proved average everywhere hes been. He had a career year last year and nearly made the playoffs. The dude should be begging the Jets to take him back. The only success he has had in this league is under Chan Gailey's tutelage....he best remember that

Globalization is bad

The NFL annouced more games in London, Mexico (2016), Germany (2017) and China (2018). Can we just stop this globalization thing already. The major issue with this whole package of out of country games is the fact that they take struggling franchises and strip them of a home game. This causes agonizied fans to lose a home game which is shitty for the franchise. This forces the franchise to lose more fan support. The result is the shittiest teams represent the NFL in countries overseas, giving them an inferior product. All the while setting up their already struggling teams to struggle more. What is the end game here? I think the league is forcing the Jags to keep playing these games until they lose enough fans where they can justify a move to London. Stop fucking with the game we love. Its enough that every year you change the rules but now you want to strip teams of home games so you can go to countries that might like football and give them a shitty game between shitty teams to watch...

RG3 to the Browns?

This would be the ultimate marriage in dysfunction. You could not write a better script then these two media giants converging on each other. Griffin is the ultimate rags-to-riches-to-rags story and the Browns are everyones favorite dumpster fire. Someone get hard knocks on the phone, this is must-see-tv. In all seriousness this would be good for both sides. Hue Jackson is a remarkable coach who has experience as both an offensive and defensive coordinator (let that sink in) and his players love him. He designs his system around his players which is what Griffin needs most. If RG can swallow his pride (and sign the dotted line) then this could be good for his career. Assuming cleveland actually gets some talent for their team.

Gotta respect the hustle

Love Bob Kraft writing a letter to goddell essentially begging him for his draft pick back. Smart move, deflategate was a total failure by the league. The fact that they are still dragging Brady through court is fuckin ridiculous. I hate the Pats as much as the next guy but if you dont think deflategate was bullshit, then you dont have a brain. Stripping them of a first round pick was ridiculous in itself. Take a 3rd or 4th away like you usually do, no need to go overboard. Kraft did the right thing here. He brought awareness to a blunder and reminded everyone that they lost a pick here, losing a first rounder is no joke. P.S. If you want to see hypocrisy at its finest look no further then the Dwight Howard situation. Guy got caught messing with the ball (he put stickum on his hands because he cant catch) and everyone thinks its funny. Do you see the issue here.....

Weddle

Ravens pick up disrespected safety Eric Weddle to pari with Will Hill in the back of a pretty potent defence. The Chargers treated one of their best defensive players like trash and kicked him to the side of the road. The guy wanted to retire a charger and team refused to talk to him. In the words of Ron Burgundy you stay classy San Diego. Or as Mr. Weddle might say....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HNJ93HCxUA

Raiders with a great pickup

Need meets team. Sean Smith makes a trip accross the division and fixes Oaklands biggest issue. The huge corner will pair with another big boy in David Amerson to give opposing recievers fits. This is a must in a division where the likes of Keenan Allen, Jeremy Maclin and the Denver duo make up six matchups next season. Oakland's building something and I am cautiously optimistic about their chances this year.

Titans steal one from the phins

Rishard Mathews signed to the Titans and its a good move for all sides. Tennesse needs playmakers and the dolphins have their top three guys. Mathews showed something but he wanted a bigger role and tennesse was willing to give that to hime. Plus Stills, Parker and Landry are an excellent trio. Just as Kendall Wright, Green-Beckham and Mathews will be in Titan land.

Fuckin Weird Story

Martavis Bryant recieved a one year suspension yesterday for violating the leagues drug policy. Everyone know Bryant loves his chronic but this suspension seemed to come out of nowhere. I thought the league reformed their Weed policy but I guess smoking is the same as steriods still. Listen I know he was suspended last year for the same reason but how long is the league going to keep doing this. The pain killers and opioids they give out are addictive as shit and weed is well....weed. The NFL's drug of choice will give you nasty withdrawals and Bryants favorite vice will lead straight to your fridge. Can we figure out this policy before we rob my eyeballs of another great player. P.S. The whole Depression thing is crazy. I hear this guy is actually checking into rehab for it. Kind of weird hes not appealing the suspension either. Let the guy smoke it was obviously helping him relax.

Steelers grab a good one

Lardarius Green can ball. The guy has been stuck behind the Tim Duncan of football for some time (Antonio Gates). In a limited role the guy has shown up in a big way. He's big, fast and can catch the ball with the best of them. Giving Big Ben a new weapon was very smart on the steelers end. How they utilize him will be interesting as the steelers usually covet dual threat tight ends and Green is just a big wide reciever.

Giants are throwing money around

The Giants want a good defensive line in case you havent noticed. After overpaying for Olivier Vernon they made the right decision with Damon "Snacks" Harrison. The behemoth was one of the best run stuffers of the last few years and that was as a nose tackle. I feel like this guy will be an absolute animal in a 4-3 defence. He should open up lanes for Vernon and JPP at a ridiculous clip. If all of these pieces fit together the Giants could have one of the better dlines in football.

Jags on a spending spree

The Jags over paid for a young safety coming off a down year. As I mentioned before if you are the Jags you have to overpay for everyone, that is a fact. This signing is a high risk, high reward type deal. Gipson was a hell of a ball hawk in 2013 and 14 but his play fell off the deep end last year. He was rated one of the worst safeties by pro football focus. Whether this was an anomaly or a sign of things to come remains to be seen. I mean the guy did play for Cleveland.

Thanks

I just want to thank the Patriots for giving us a gift. Is it Christmas in Arizona cause it sure as hell feels like it. For those of you who havent heard the Cardinals traded Johnathon "bust" Cooper and a second round pick to the Pats for Chandler Jones. For those of you who arent familiar with Jones he only had 12.5 sacks last year. Who needs free agency when you can pedal a shitty ass guard and a low second rounder into a pro bowl pass rusher. I do love me some Steve Keim. Our biggest weakness is now fixed. My favorite part of this trade is Pats fans pretending like Jabaal Sheard is the better player. Get the fuck out of here with that. You couldnt pay all of your defenders so you traded one, plain and simple. Also anyone who thinks Cooper is going to somehow turn around that offensive line has a screw loose, the guy couldnt beat out ted fuckin Larsen. The Cardinals trade raped the pats, plain and simple

Fleener to the Saints

This is an interesting one. Colts fans swear this guy is soft and overatted which is what makes him a perfect fit in New Orleans. Jimmy Graham was soft and they found a way to make him into an absolute star. If they plug fleener into that role and let Josh Hill handle the blocking then this can be a coup for the Saints. Either way they better figure it out because they gave a lot of money to a guy that every colts fan seems to hate. I feel like Brees will make him very welcome in Saintland.

Falcons might have gotten a steal

Because I have a dad who loves the phins, I have watched an enormous amount of miami football. In saying that I can confidently claim that Derrick Shelby is due for a breakout. When Cam Wake went down he did an admirable job filling in. As he gains more experience he should be a great asset for the dirty birds. The combination of Shelby and Beasley should make life very difficult for qbs in the NFC south.

Viking make a move

Vikings made an interesting move a few days back bringing in Micheal Griffin. The former tennesse safety had his moments for the Titans but recently hes been more of a an average starter then anything. This seems like an odd move by the Vikings as they just resigned Andrew Sendejo and have Harrison Smith intact as the starters. This is a good depth signing however. Also his contract is only a one 3 million dollar deal so its low risk and potentially high reward for the Vikings.

Giants make a mistake

I might catch a lot of flack for this but Olvier Vernon is not that good. I mean guy can rush the passer and all but he is not worth 85 million. Whats with the media pumping his tires up too. Hes goddamn average, not to mention hes kind of a dumbass. He lost the phins two games this year on penalties alone. Look I get that the Giants need rushing help and all, if they didnt overpay someone else would have yada yada. But im not sold on this guy and the medias dick sucking affair with him seems unwarranted. Look for this to be one of the bigger free agency flops.

Bears get the perfect backer

The Bears got the perfect player for their scheme when they grabbed Danny Trevathan. Trevathan was somewhat of an unsung hero on the vaunted Broncos defence. However, his versatility and coverage expertise was a big part of the success that the Broncos had last year. He is a perfect fit for the Bears as he can play all over the field and he gives them the linebacker help they have been missing since Briggs and Urlacher left. Look for this to be one of the best signings of the offseason.

Falcons replace white

Mohamed Sanu inked a 5 year deal with the Falcons yesterday. He should really flourish with all of the constant attention on Julio Jones. Sanu is an athletic marvel that can really succeed on the field when put in the right position. Hes coming off a down year but I suspect he will really bounce back with the falcons. He will have at least 800 yards just being opposite Julio this year.

The Cards are awake

The Cardinals woke from their free agent slumber to pick up a low risk high reward player in Tyvvon Branch. When healthy the guy is an absolute animal who excels as a run stuffing safety. Unfortunately, he has been unable to stay healthy in tow of the last three years. However, he is coming off a year in which he played all 16 games. The way the cardinals use multiple safeties in a variety of roles will hopefully help him excel while keeping his legs relatively fresh.

Rams resign a pair

Smart move by St. Louis as they locked up Will Hayes and Mark Barron. These two both really stepped up their games last year. Barron moved from safety to outside backer and played better then anyone couldve imagined. He and Deone Buccanon started something that I suspect many teams are going to copy in the coming years. Especially, with the increased focus of speed on offence. Hayes played his usual role of solid edge rusher. The Rams valued him enough to let Chris Long walk which speaks to their confidence going forward. If successful teams have taught us anything its that keeping your own talent is part of a winning formula.

Eagles continue to be active

The eagles signed ascending safety Rodney Mcleod yesterday. This a genius move by the eagles. They pair Mcleod with Malcolm jenkins to cover the deep portions of the field. This is smart when your corners are dogshit. At least now they can stop fifty yard bombs. In all seriousness, great coup for a team that really needs a jolt in the secondary. Mcleod is an underrated players that anyone who follows the rams will tell you is an up and comer

Matt Forte

Great pickup by the Jets. They lost Ivory and FOrte will do more then just replace him. He's a great fit in this offence as he brings a receiving dimension to the backfield. COmbine that with Marshall and Decker and you have a great set of weapons for whoever your qb will be. Now the Jets really need to focus on either getting Fitz back or trading up and snagging one of those qbs. Weapons like this cannot go to waste.

The rich get richer

Lamar Miller is off to Houston and it looks like they are building something special in Texan land. The combination of Miller and Oswieler should round out a capable offence that should help that ridiculous unit on the other side of the ball. If both these guys show up then Houston will have its own version of the triplets when you include the ridiculousness that is Hopkins. Big moves by Houston....big moves.

Brock

Wow, off to the Texans with Brock. You would think he would want to come back to a superbowl winning team and flourish, but I guess to each is own. I can see Houston being a good destination for a qb. They have that great defence, Deandre Hopkins and a second year player with a lot of talent in Jalen Strong. They also fuckin threw down with a 4 year 72 mill contract. This move could make Houston the favorite in the AFC south.

Martin back in Tampa

Doug Martin is back in Tampa on a huge deal. This is probably not what the Bucs wanted to pay but getting Martin back is crucial for the growth of this team. Assuming he is somewhere between the Doug Martin of last last year and the muscle hamster of 2014, this was a necessary evil for the Bucs. Jameis Winston really needed this and he should thank ownership for paying way too much for Martin.

Bengals look up one of their own

George Iloka was kept in Cincy with a 5 year 30 million contract. There a couple of factors here. Cincy's whole secondary was entering free agency and they had to keep at least one of their guys. The other thing is that Iloka's stats wont blow you away but his age (25), starter experience (3 years) and physical attributes (6'4) lead you to believe he is due for a breakout. I'll trust the Bengals here because to me this seems like a little bit of a waste of money. This is not to say the kid cant play but 6 mill a year seems awfully high for potential.

Falcons grab Mack

Alex Mack will finally be heading to a semi-competitive team when he finalizes his contract with the Falcons in the next few hours. Mack has long been one of the better centers in the league when healthy  Considering how fast devonta freeman faded down the stretch, this was a move that needed to happen. Also, every good qb will tell you just how important and underratted a good center-qb relationship is. The jury is still out on whether Matt Ryan is a good qb...but thats a question for another blog.

Viking upgrade oline

The Vikings picked up guard Alex Boone today in a very smart move. When your team lives and dies with Adrian Peterson it would make sense to have a good oline. Boone's ability to excel in run blocking makes this a match made in heaven. The Vikings would be smart to continue to improve this average unit in free agency and the draft. I also just wanted to shout out the 49ers, how is dysfunctional is your franchise when you cant keep a single good player.

Jags throw cash at Ivory

Chris Ivory signed with the Jags yesterday for 5 years and up to 30 million. When your the Jags you have to overpay for what you want and that was the situation here. All that aside this is a great move for the Jags. A duo of Ivory and TJ Yeldon will do wonders for a Jags offence on the rise. This will take pressure off Blake Bortles and allow the Jags a more balanced attacks that should help the compete in that pathetic excuse of a division.

Lions replace Calvin

The lions paid handsomely for big play wide receiver Marvin Jones. Jones is set to make 8 million dollars a year. I think he fits in perfectly with what Detroit is trying to do. He is a big, tall and fast receiver who is dynamite after the catch. He also has a tendency to find the end zone. He has all of the same skills that Johnson brought to the table, just half the talent. That is more to say just how much of a fuckin freak megatron actually was. Sure they overpaid but they needed a receiver like this to help Stafford with the transition.

Giants break the bank

The Giants give big-play corner Janoris Jenkins a huge contract to bookend DRC in the big apple. The 5 year 62.5 million dollar contract seems to have pundits split down the middle. On one side, there are rams fans who swear this guy gets beat deep regularly on the other side there are guys who look at his big play ability (10 picks and 5 tds). I think what we have here is a crisis of mentality, everyone knows how good of a player Jenkins can be. If he is given the proper coaching on when and when not to gamble then he will be just fine. Also, a big play safety who could cover his ass would not be the worst thing in the world. We will see if Jenkins can be more then a Deanglo Hall clone.

Radiers grab a good one

As a salty Cards fan I'm rattled at this. The Cards had interest in Bruce Irvin but the Raiders have ridiculous amounts of money, so you do the math. As far as this signing goes, this is perfect for all involved. The Raiders get another freak athlete to rush the passer and make their front seven that much more frightening and Irvin gets the full-time role he deserves. Just imagine lining up against that Defence: Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin and Dan Williams on the line is fuckin terrifying.

Chargers grab Benjamin

Chargers grab Travis Benjamin yesterday to upgrade their receiver corps. With the lose of Malcolm Floyd, the general lack of speed in their receiver corps and the shitty punt returning, this move couldn't be better for San Diego. Benjamin is an ascending player who almost reached 1,000 yards last year. Keep in mind that was with the Browns shitty qbs. Just imagine what he could do with Rivers passing him the ball. This could prove to be a major steel for the Chargers.

Wait, what the fuck

So the colts gave a 3 year 40 million dollar contract to a guy who had 13 catches in 13 games. What in the fuck are they thinking. They pick Dwayne Allen over Coby Fleener? Can someone explain this shit to me. You give a second string, blocking tight end 13 mill a season. Just fire Grigson already Indy. Guy is a nut case who wouldnt know talent if it hit him in his oversized tux. Werner, Trent Richardson...guy is out of his mind.

Eagles get a bargin

Eagles inked Leodis Mckelvin to a two year 6 million dollar deal (finally no undisclosed terms). This is a low risk, high reward kind of signing that could really help this team in light of the Maxwell deal. When healthy Mckelvin can cover and return kicks at a high level. Unfortunately, injury and the rise of Ron Darby made him an after thought. Love the move here. Wish the goddamn Cards could have grabbed him, lord knows we need him.

The rich get richer

Baltimore brings in Ben Watson to add a veteran presence to their corps. They already have Crockett Gilmore and Max Williams so this move is a little peculiar. I guess the ravens love tight ends and at the very least Watson can be a great veteran presence who shows the young-ins whats what. Again to grade this deal I need to know how much the team spent. Only time will tell. We know Watson can ball though.

Hali back

Smart move by the Chiefs. Hali has been so consistent for so long. Even as an injured 32 year old, he still managed 6.5 sacks last year. This deal will make him a life time chief and frankly, no deserves it more. Hopefully, Hali can keep up the production and finish his career as he began it....on top

This could be great or the worst

The phins are on the move again. They are finalizing a deal that would bring in Mario Williams for roughly 8 million a year. If this is motivated Mario Williams, a great dline just got a lot better. If this is lazy Mario then the phins just threw way too much money on an over the hill talent. They better fuckin hope this works out or else they are entering redskins zone in terms of throwing money at everyone with a pulse. FYI: I think the Suh deal was a good one and I also liked the trade but they are going all in on this whole free agency thing. Also not spending this money on Lamar Miller is ludicrous. Ride or die Miami....ride or die

A couple resignees

JPP back to the Giants in an incentive laden deal that could be worth up to 10.5 million dollars. The guy must love New York because there were definitely better offers on the table. For Buffalo the enigma Richie Icognito is back on a three year extension. He really stepped up his game last year, showing us the reason why he continues to get chances despite his psychotic behaviour. Great call by Richie as I bet he and Rex Ryan are like tow peas and a pod. Plus Buffalo seems like the ultimate bully-filled locker room.

Mega-deal for Jackson

Malik Jackson hit it big with Jaguars today. The Jags had cap space and a need. The big question here is where Jackson will play, end or tackle. Luckily for him Gus Bradely is a genious on defence and will figure out a way to best unleash him on the rest of the league. Combine this with the return of Dante Fowler and you have a dline on the rise. Plus there was no chance denver was going to give the guy 12 million a season. Free agency is in full effect.

First big free agent signing

The Raiders broke the bank for Kelechi Osemele. The versatile offensive lineman will receive upwards of 11 million dollars a year. That is crazy money for an offensive lineman. This will however be the new trend as the NFL revenue and salary cap increase. As for the fit, this is perfect for the Raiders to round out their offensive line. They grabbed Rodney Hudson last year and a combination of Osemele, Hudson and Gabe Jackson is one of the NFL's best interiors on paper. The Raiders are building something special for the first time in a long time.

Peyton hangs em up

Wait to make the right call Peyton. You were over the hill and everyone seem to know it but you. All kidding aside, this is the end of one of the most iconic players of our generation. The fact that he ended his career on a high note is perfect. Also, I have to give him some serious credit for retiring amid news that his flawless record was about to be compromised (HGH, teabagging). Savvy move Peyton, Godspeed!

Fire Sale!

The Eagles continue to rid themselves of any memory of Chip Kelly. After one year with the team, Demarco Murray has been dealt to the Titans for undisclosed draft picks. This is a good deal for both sides. The Titans would give Murray an opportunity to be the bell cow back beside Marcus Mariota, a role he wanted the whole time. The Eagles, are ready for a rebuild and continue to grab draft picks for expensive veterans. Similar to the Dolphins trade, we won't know what kind of deal this is until the draft pick compensation is revealed.

Trade

The Dolphins made an aggressive and peculiar move yesterday. They dealt an undisclosed amount of draft picks for Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell. This is the ultimate boom or bust deal. It depends on two things a. what Miami actually gave up and B. the players themselves. Both these players have large question marks but are capable of playing at a high level. If Alonso is healthy, this is the ultimate pickup for the dolphins. He can play inside or outside backer, is a freak athlete and plays the run just as well as the pass. However, his health is a large question mark after a number of injuries in recent years. As for Maxwell, he is purely a system corner. He is a physical, press coverage corner who needs a predominately man system to excel. If the dolphins are willing to adopt this type of defence, he should excel. An interesting move that could put this team over the top or spell doom for all involved.

Another veteran bites the dust

Charles Johnson, another team stalwart has been cut. Its the time of year where tough decisions are constantly made and familiar faces are shown the door. There is no doubt that Johnson can still ball and his slump in statistics says more about Kony Ealy's impact and less about Johnson as a player. Similar to Smith he will not be on the market long as proven pass rushers are always welcomed on almost every team.

Smith out

Daryl Smith of the Ravens was cut today after acumulating 122 tackles last year. Despite his age (33), Smith can still play at a high level. The reason for his release has more to do with the Ravens cap situation then anything. Also the rise of future star CJ Mosely, made him somewhat expendable. However, this is a guy who wont be unemployed for long. MLB is always a position of need for many teams. In fact, a certain desert team has the need and history of taking on proven veterans. Go get him Keim!

Huge change in Texas

As expected Arian Foster was cut today. The second best player in the history of the texans franchise has finally been let go. Its the end of an era as this guy has essentially been the offence for this team since 2010. Like all great running backs, foster has seen his production and body breakdown as he approaches thirty. That being said, if he were to land in the right situation where he could share the load and stay fresh who knows? Dallas seems like the obvious landing spot. Mcfadden is equally injury prone and lance dunbar is essentially a wide reciever. A mix of DMC and Foster with Dunbar on third downs, behind that Oline could be deadly. I honestly hope this guy bounces back, class act and a hell of a player.

Stalwart cut

Roddy White was let go by the falcons today. The end of an era in Atlanta. White has been a huge part of the falcons for the better part of 10 years. Unfortunately, his production has been somewhat lacking recently. Though this could change with a Larry Fitzgerald-esque move to the slot. He is still a great route runner with reliable hands that is perfect for a lot of teams looking for a chain mover. However, I could absolutely see the Falcons bringing him back at a reduced rate. They have no depth at receiver and White has said time and time again that he loves Atlanta. If not he could be a valuable piece for a contender like the Patriots.

He wants what?

I'll admit when I'm wrong and I was wrong with Kirk Cousins. Yesterday I blamed the skins, today I am going to blame the greedy fucker that Kirk apparently is. Guy wanted 20 million a year, 20!! The career backup with one good year (half of which he was mediocre) wants 20 million a year. I cannot describe to you how ridiculous that is. You have to prove that you were not a flash in the pan before asking for the kind of cash. The thing that gets me too is Washington would have gave hime 16 mill a season. This whole franchise tag thing is either the best or worst decision Cousins has made in his life. Either he proves last year was no fluke and then cashes in huge or he plays like he has for most of his career and gets low balled on the open market. Your move Kirk, you slydog. P.S. if the franchise tag for a qb is barely 20 million then how does cousins think he is worth that much? The franchise tag is what the top 5 at the position make, let that sink in for a moment

Big contract

Joe Flacco get a huge contract extension today. This is exactly what the phins should be doing with Wake. Sure 40 million dollars is a little much for a pass rusher who might as well be a senior citizen but the concept remains strong. You give a franchise player a largely back-loaded mega deal with a big guarantee. Once you get to the back nine of the contract, you restructure to dilute the cap hit and give the player a nice chunk of guarenteed money. Thats just GM 101. As for the Ravens, this worked perfectly. You lock up your superbowl winning franchise qb for essentially the rest of his career, all the while freeing up some cap space

Why Philly

Man does philly love Sam Bradford. I dont really get it myself. He's an average, injury prone starter who wont elevate a team but he also wont lose games for you. If they were smart the eagles would have given him a short term, incentive laced contract to be the stop gap. All the while developing a qb for the future but hey giving a qb who wont get you to the playoffs 26 million in guarantees is another way to go....I guess.

Cut

Mario Williams got the axe in buffalo today. This made sense in that the Bills save 19 million in cap space but they maybe should have considered a restructure. He only had one bad season and has proven time and again that he is a unique talent that can get after the qb. The rift with Rex Ryan could have played a factor. He voiced his displeasure a couple times this year and it seems things have reached a breaking point. However, if Williams doesnt insist on big money he could be an excellent pickup for a contender who needs pass rush help (Arizona, wink-wink-nudge-nudge). We will see where his priorities lie.....

The Wake impass

This is tricky. When healthy Cam Wake is an animal, he is also really fuckin old for a dlineman (34). So it comes as no surprise that the dolphins want him to take a paycut off of the 9 million cap hit he would have this year. Unfortunately for both sides there is a significant impass. Without knowing anything about negotiations, I am going to say they need to give him more guaranteed money upfront. They should also consider making his contract two years and create an incentive-based system where a great season will get him paid. If your the phins, you need this guy back but only at the right price. The tagging of Olivier Vernon and the emergence of Derek Shelby give them some flexibility here

Franchise Taggin

The skins franchised Kirk Cousins today. This is either the smartest or dumbest move they could have made. If the negotiations have been in good faith and the time ran out, this could be good. Both sides have time to hash some things out and go back to the drawing board for next year. If talks were not going well, then the skins might have an issue on their hands. Many players who get franchise tagged hate it because of the injury clause. This often results in holdouts and significant friction that almost always ends in a messy divorce. This is one thing if you are a receiver or lineman but when its a qb things could get really complicated. A qb holdout can throw off the entire team in more ways then one. I'm not saying Kirk is going to hold out or doesn't like the franchise tag, it is just strange that the team needed to resort to this. This kind of thing doesn't happen with qbs. All eyes will be on Cousins when OTA's begin
