Romo calling it quits


The last few weeks of the Tony Romo saga epitomize his interesting career. A drama-filled journey in which Jerry Jones essentially held him for ransom. Instead of releasing Romo as promised, Jones kept him, waiting to get something in return for his favourite player. The other teams in the league called his bluff and figured they could wait Jones out. Romo handled things just as well as you would expect. Once he figured out his release was a pipe dream, he did what we all would have done: sulked. He "distanced" himself from "pro-Dak" people in the organization. This is weird considering everyone should be pro-Dak at this point. The guys has a working back, whats not to love. Finally, Romo did the unthinkable....he retired. I mean probably a good call for a man with a gimpy back and a shitty collar bone. Things are not all doom and gloom for your favourite negative meme star. He will be replacing Phil Simms on the go-to football announcing team for CBS sports. Not bad for a guy who hasn't been healthy in years. Romo will be remembered for his amazing feats of choking and memeable injuries that every lazy fan uses to make themselves feel better. He had some signature moments and was extremely productive in the regular season. He just didn't have the it-factor that would get the team over the hump to the superbowl. The cowboys lost an overpaid backup and the internet lost its favourite low hanging fruit. Sad day for football.

P.S. Part of me thinks this was a final fuck you to Jerry Jones. The Cowboys technically released him today. I can see him pulling a Brett Favre and signing with the Houston Texans.

Tom Brady

The man, the myth, the legend. A fixture of professional sports for the last 20 years. Tom Brady seemed destine to ride off into the sunset on a half functional body and a relatively intact brain, donning a Patriots jersey. It seems that the ancient quarterback and his morally inept team had something else in mind. Brady met with Belicheck and thats that, no progress, no give and take. It seemed like a rather Belicheckian end to a 20 year long domination tour. The coach, of course, is known as an analytical decision maker who rather cut a player too early than too late. Anyone who watched Brady last year saw a noticeable drop in all statistical categories. When you arer 42 years old it is not unreasonable to see a steady decline in production. The XFL rule that the NFL must adopt

The XFL has burst onto the scene. By burst I mean the league has yet to fold. In all seriousness, as a football fan I am just happy there is semi-coherent football being played. Sure quarterback play isn't up to snuff (with the exception of a couple guys) but the XFL is doing something very cool. Other leagues have failed because they try and emulate or compete with the NFL. The XFL had basically filled a need (spring football) and provided enough wild concepts to keep your average fan somewhat interested. Honestly thats all football loving degenerates like myself need. The NFL would be wise to check their immense egos and improve their game through a key rule change.  The adoption of the XFL's revolutionary kickoff structure is a must for the league.
