Free agency roundup part 2

Teddy Bridgewater: The Panthers decided to turn the page on Cam Newton after another injury- plagued season. The bizarrely haired, hieroglyphic writing QB was due for a change of scenery. Bridgewater, on the other hand, flashed serious skill while Drew Brees was on the shelf. He is still only 27 and could be a very good quarterback for Matt Rhule and co. He is a young qb on a reasonable deal, should be a win-win for both sides. Ryan Tannehill: I know I said I would focus on guys who changed teams, however I would be remiss if I did not address Tanny. The talented quarterback peeked at the right time down the stretch. He tore up the league in the second half of the season throwing 22 tds and 6 picks. In fact he and Derrick Henry almost got the Titans to a superbowl. Tannehill is good but hes not 4 years and 118 million dollars good. I think the Titans will live to regret this decision. Jack Conklin: A bit of a surprise cut by the Titans. The 25 year old was coming off of a so-so sea...

Free agency update part 1

In a world where no sports exist, the only thing us entertainment-starved, sports fanatics can sink our teeth into is NFL Free agency. Thus far we have seen an absolutely wild and eventful game of player shuffle. This series of blogs will feature a full breakdown of some of the biggest and most questionable moves made thus far. The list will feature mostly players who have switched teams. So without further ado the bolo-tie wearing, gunslinger with 11,000 kids will kick off the list. Philip Rivers: Rivers saw a steep decline in production last year. Despite the multitude of weapons to choose from, the quarterback struggled down the stretch. Some blame can be placed on the oline but you have to think age is becoming a factor here. The Colts appear to be over promising Jacoby Brissett so they went out and signed Rivers to a 1 year deal. The signing from a fit and money perspective makes sense for Rivers but you have to wonder what the Colts are thinking. Do they think they are a su...

Tom Brady

The man, the myth, the legend. A fixture of professional sports for the last 20 years. Tom Brady seemed destine to ride off into the sunset on a half functional body and a relatively intact brain, donning a Patriots jersey. It seems that the ancient quarterback and his morally inept team had something else in mind. Brady met with Belicheck and thats that, no progress, no give and take. It seemed like a rather Belicheckian end to a 20 year long domination tour. The coach, of course, is known as an analytical decision maker who rather cut a player too early than too late. Anyone who watched Brady last year saw a noticeable drop in all statistical categories. When you arer 42 years old it is not unreasonable to see a steady decline in production. Just like that the six time superbowl champion hit the open market. It was not long before an ancient coach enamoured with ancient quarterbacks swooped in and took a chance on the hall of fame quarterback. From Brady's perspective, this is a ...

Its like Chirstmas

In these times of uncertainty it is rare that we receive any good news. Things appear to be getting more and more grim by the day. The coronavirius is like a freight train forcing quarantines and cancelling sports left and right. No one knows what tomorrow holds and it is a little unsettling. So when one is presented with good news it can be a great change of pace. If you are a Cardinals fan, like myself and three other people outside of Phoenix then yesterday was a glorious day. Deandre Hopkins is a Cardinal, I repeat, possibly the best receiver in the the league is a Cardinal! I know what you are thinking, we probably gave up too much. We must of had to mortgage the future right? Wrong, all it took was a second rounder, an overpaid has been and a fourth rounder. I love Bill O'Brien, his incompetence always peaks out at the right time. From the playoff debacle to hating his best player, BOB is my new favourite GM. Just handing out talent to the needy like some sort of idiotic robi...

The XFL rule that the NFL must adopt

Image
The XFL has burst onto the scene. By burst I mean the league has yet to fold. In all seriousness, as a football fan I am just happy there is semi-coherent football being played. Sure quarterback play isn't up to snuff (with the exception of a couple guys) but the XFL is doing something very cool. Other leagues have failed because they try and emulate or compete with the NFL. The XFL had basically filled a need (spring football) and provided enough wild concepts to keep your average fan somewhat interested. Honestly thats all football loving degenerates like myself need. The NFL would be wise to check their immense egos and improve their game through a key rule change.  The adoption of the XFL's revolutionary kickoff structure is a must for the league. If you are unfamiliar, the kicker kicks off from the normal distance (the 30). The gunners and blocker are placed in a stationary position at the opponents 35, facing each other. The kicker then kicks the ball and the players a...

NFL schedule change drama

The NFL CBA is  coming to an end and things looked to be coming together just fine. When the news broke of the proposed deal, myself, like every other fan, was ecstatic. One less preseason game, one extra regular season game and an expanded playoff format. The players would in turn receive an increase revenue share and an increased chance of making a super bowl. Who could possibly not want this? Your answer is Richard Sherman (shocking, I know) a player who prides himself on being difficult just for the hell of it. In case you haven't heard he went to Stanford which makes him the smartest person in the world, just ask him. The other big detractor is one JJ Watt, a transformational talent and sure fire hall of famer. Watt has only been able to play a full season once in the last 4 years. His team is also always in the playoffs. You have to think if he played for some limp dick franchise like the Browns he would be singing an entirely different tune. The owners have quickly approved ...

The bizarre saga of Myles Garrett

Image
This Myles Garrett stuff is wild. If your not familiar with the situation, the Cleveland Browns defensive end tried to decapitate an opponent. The opponent in question, Mason Rudolph got into a tussle with the adonis that is Garrett. Garrett (who is known for his calm demeanour) saw it fit to remove Rudolph's helmet and attempt to murder him with it. He succeeded in denting the head of the goofy faced quarterback. Garrett was then suspended for the rest of the season. In fact he was just recently reinstated. The Browns defensive end did a reason interview where he claimed that Rudolph called him a big word beginning with the letter n. We all know what I am talking about. Of course the Pittsburgh QB denied all allegations. Looking at this from an outsiders perspective, its hard to say for sure. I do know a few thing though: Rudolph was immediately assisted by his offensive lineman who are also black. In fact the head coach of the Steelers, Mike Tomlin (also of African american de...
