Free agency update part 1
In a world where no sports exist, the only thing us entertainment-starved, sports fanatics can sink our teeth into is NFL Free agency. Thus far we have seen an absolutely wild and eventful game of player shuffle. This series of blogs will feature a full breakdown of some of the biggest and most questionable moves made thus far. The list will feature mostly players who have switched teams. So without further ado the bolo-tie wearing, gunslinger with 11,000 kids will kick off the list.
Philip Rivers: Rivers saw a steep decline in production last year. Despite the multitude of weapons to choose from, the quarterback struggled down the stretch. Some blame can be placed on the oline but you have to think age is becoming a factor here. The Colts appear to be over promising Jacoby Brissett so they went out and signed Rivers to a 1 year deal. The signing from a fit and money perspective makes sense for Rivers but you have to wonder what the Colts are thinking. Do they think they are a superbowl contender? The fact of the matter is Rivers should bounce back behind an improved offensive line and an underrated rushing attack. This could wind up as the steal of free agency. The direction of the team gives me pause, however.
Chris Harris: Harris is one the most consistently excellent players that does not get enough shine. Since he entered the league in 2011, he has been a constant shutdown corner who specializes in covering the slot. However, he was quite average last year and at age 31 the rebuilding Broncos decided to let him walk. The Chargers scooped up Harris on a 2 year deal. If he can bounce back to the player he was in 2018, that Chargers defence should be absolutely dominate next year.
Byron Jones: The young shutdown corner for Dallas got absolutely paid by the Dolphins. Nit pickers will say that Jones does not create enough turnovers to justify an 82 million dollar investment. If you are a team like the Dolphins, why not take a chance on a top level talent. Jones has been as good as it gets for the last couple years. Pairing him with Xavien Howard should help the fish build off of their strong second half last year.
Corey Littleton: A victim of the Rams cap crunch, Littleton is an elite playmaker and pass defender. At 26 years old, the skies the limit for the new Raiders. This was must get for a team that had significant holes on their defensive front. The former Ram should step right in and command a much improved defence for John Gruden's remastered Vegas Raiders.
