Alex Smith trade

What an absolute bombshell. Alex Smith is traded to the Redskins for Kendall Fuller and a third round pick. Upon receiving Smith, the skins gave him a 4 year extension worth upwards of 90 million, with a 70 million dollar signing bonus. This proverbial fuck you to Kirk Cousins is a sign that things between him and the organization were beyond repair. Which is expected after he received the franchise tag two straight years. As for the trade itself, I don't get it, at least as far as Washington goes. The Chiefs absolutely needed to deal Smith and the return was better then advertised. Kendall Fuller is the best slot corner in the league (according to Pro football focus) and a third round pick is the cherry on top. KC can now transition into the Patrick Mahomes era seamlessly. For the Chiefs this makes total sense. For the Redskins this is just classic Dan Snyder. Kirk Cousins is a younger qb who has had a great amount of success statistically. Pencil him in for 25 plus tds and 4000 plus yards every year, regardless of the supporting cast. Sure his win-loss record isn't anything special but he often had to overcompensate for a lack of weapons around him. He is a franchise qb. I like Alex Smith, hes a winner, but he's also 33. Cousins on the other hand is 28. This deal will look good next year as Alex is still at the top of his game but who knows how long that will last. The skins don't have the supporting cast of the Chiefs so it will be interesting to see how Smith adjusts. Cousins on the other hand will be paid handsomely to become the face of a franchise (cardinals, fingers crossed). Weird move by an owner who cant get out of his own way.
