Justin Hunter Scouting Report

Strengths
- great hands despite his drops (mostly the result of concentration lapses)
- high points the ball capable of making the spectacular catch
- good route runner able to run most routes in the route tree
- able to get separation on all routes
- good straight line speed for his size
- showed elite agility near the end of the season (gradual recovery from ACL surgery)
- great after the catch
- scheme versatile able to play split end or flanker

Weaknesses
- struggled against South Carolina (NFL pedigree in the secondary)
- lapses in concentration cause too many drops, despite being a natural catcher
- would like to see him bulk up to handle press corners better
- improved route runner after switch to Z receiver (last year) but would still like to see more growth in this department

Bottom line: When I look at Justin Hunter everything is there: size, speed, hands, experience and versatility. He could improve his route running and become more of a hands catcher but this can be developed over time. The reason Hunter is not in the discussion as a top wide receiver is his ACL tear forced him to lose some of his explosiveness that was only partially regained as the season progressed. If Hunter can continue to return to his pre-injury form, add a bit of weight and refine his receiver skills then we are looking at a match up nightmare or potential steal when as he is projected to go between the end of the 1st to the mid-2nd round of the draft

Diagnosis: bottom of the 1st- mid 2nd round (if he were fully healthy: top 15)
